Protective lead plates are metal sheets made from No. 1 high-purity electrolytic lead through rolling and pressing. They are the basic shielding material for X-ray and gamma-ray protection engineering, widely used for the walls, ceilings, and floors of radiation rooms, and are also the core shielding layer material for protective equipment such as lead doors, lead rooms, and lead boxes. Relying on its high atomic number and high density, it absorbs and attenuates ionizing radiation energy through the photoelectric effect and Compton effect. Its protective capability is measured in lead equivalent (mmPb), and the thickness of the pure lead plate corresponds approximately one-to-one with its lead equivalent.
